We Need Greeters!

Greet!
At every Taste the World walking and sampling tour, we need up to 40 friendly, helpful greeters! The greeters are the ones who help create the welcoming atmosphere at each of the participating market stands, (or restaurants, bakeries, or cafes) and provide continuity of experience for participants. We can't hold these events without greeters!

In exchange for about two hours of welcoming guests, collecting food item tickets, and answering questions, greeters receive a free ticket to the event. Greeters must be at least 16 years old.

There are two shifts for the Lancaster Central Market tour: 6:30 to 8 a.m. and 8 to 9:15 a.m.
A copy of the following instructions will be included in the supply kit, so you do not need to print this out.

Instructions for Shift 1 Greeters (6:30 to 8 a.m.)

Thank you for helping to make the Taste the World Central Market sampling tour a success!

Please note: While greeting, you must wear a hair restraint. This could be a cap, visor, or wide head band. You can wear your own; we will provide disposable hair nets and beard restraints for anyone who needs them. Do not touch food or drink with bare hands.

  1. Arrive at the Central Market information stand between 6:30 and 6:45 a.m.
  2. You will receive an apron, a Taste the World greeter pin, two envelopes, pens, a copy of these instructions, a hair restraint (if needed), a beard restraint (if needed) and a coupon booklet for you to use during the second shift.
  3. Put on the apron and pin.
  4. Head on over to your assigned stand. Inform the stand holder that you are a greeter who has come to help with the Taste the World tour.
  5. Ask the stand holder:
    1. About specific instructions on where to stand/sit, how they would like the foot traffic to flow, disposal of trash, and anything else they would like you to tell the guests when they arrive.
    2. For information about the food serving, such as the origin, how to pronounce it, how long it takes to make it, the ingredients, etc. (whatever you think guests might ask you).
    3. What you should tell other customers, who are not participating with Taste the World, who come to the stand (such as “If you’re not here with Taste the World, you can order over there.”).
  6. Familiarize yourself with the map in the Taste the World coupon booklet, so you can answer guests’ questions about how they can find the other stands. Guests can visit the stands in any order.
  7. As guests arrive beginning at 7 a.m., welcome them, help them locate the stand’s coupon in the coupon booklet (if they don’t have it ready), collect the coupon, and make sure the guest receives the food or drink serving.
  8. Place coupons in the provided envelope marked Servings.
  9. Keep an eye on the food/drink to make sure that each guest only takes one serving (one per coupon) and that no other customers help themselves!
  10. Towards the end of your shift, if you see that guests' coupons are nearly used up, ask if this is their last stop. If so, ask them to fill out the “Vote and Enter to Win a Gift Certificate” card (located in the coupon booklet). Collect and place completed forms in the provided envelope marked Vote Cards.
  11. When the next greeter comes (by 8 a.m.), give him or her the apron and pin, information about the serving, the instructions, and any tips you’ve learned along the way (see #5 above).
  12. If you have any questions or problems, please call Timm at 717-723-8787.
  13. After you’ve turned things over to the next greeter, use your coupon booklet and enjoy the tour!
